Welcome to my site

Hello, my name is Robert Morris. I am a professional jeweler and avid Hobo Nickel Carver. If you were wondering what a hobo nickel is, it's a sculptural art form involving the creative modification of small-denomination coins, essentially resulting in miniature bas reliefs. The US nickel coin was favored because of its size, thickness and relative softness. However, the term hobo nickel is generic, as carvings have been made from many different denominations. Due to its low cost and portability, this medium was particularly popular among hobos, hence the name.

Here on my site, you can view pictures of some samples of my artwork. Each coin is painstakinly carved using traditional, hand push, engraving tools. Each one takes hours from concept to finish. Each piece is a unique, one of a kind, piece of art. They are sold through sites like eBay and by commision. If you would like to follow the auctions, pleases add eBay seller: deadman_jeweler.

As well as hobo nickels, I also hand engrave silver and nickel guitar picks. Like the nickels, each one is a unique, one of a kind, piece of art. Unlike most silver and nickel picks, I create these to be played. I harden the metals to a point where they are stiff but still have a little give. Like any pick, they can and will wear so I can not warrant any damages incurred by the musican.

Thank you for visiting and please contact me with any questions, comments, or commision request you may have.
